How can I manage large data files in a spreadsheet format?
I'm currently using (the corporate desktop installation of) MS Excel 2003 to perform batch processes on the University's e-journal holdings.
The e-journal admin tool warns me that, at >66,500 lines, "Excel versions 2003 and older may not properly handle a file of this size".
And sure enough, when I try to open the file in Excel, I get: "File not loaded completely".
Can anyone suggest an alternative tool that I could use to process this data?

Inappropriate? You will need to install Excel 2007, as this is designed to handle large data files. Put a request into the Service desk and one of our engineers will install it for you.

Thanks Andy - I'll do just that. -
Inappropriate?Paul, depending on the processing you need to do, Excel 2007 might give you some performance problems, just because of the sheer size of the file. Using Access to manipulate might also be a good solution?

Thanks Mike. It was never quick in Excel 2003, even when it was below 60,000 lines; caused my PC to hang quite a lot.
I'll play around with Access; I'll need to work out how Access handles some of the processes which are quite easy in Excel (global find & replace; =LOOKUP; =COUNTIF; creating VBA macros etc.) -
Paul: Happy to help out on the Access stuff if needed.
